Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to find a home on this site, whatever device or assistive technology they use.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The site is in a private beta and has not had an independent audit, so we do not claim that it conforms. This statement says what we have checked so far.

What we have tested

Each check below says whether it is done or still planned.

  • DoneAutomated checks with axe-core on the home, results, listing and place pages and on newer pages such as this one, at desktop (1366 px) and phone (390 px) widths. A serious or critical issue fails the test run.
  • DoneKeyboard use: automated tests tab through the home search, the map controls and listing pages, and check that a focused control is never hidden under the sticky contact bar.
  • DoneReflow: every page is checked at 390 px wide for content that scrolls sideways. Buttons and the main controls (the logo, menu, filter chips and map zoom buttons) are at least 44 by 44 px. Checkboxes and radio buttons are drawn smaller, but tapping their label also selects them.
  • PlannedZoom to 200% on a desktop browser, page by page.
  • PlannedScreen reader spot checks (VoiceOver on iPhone and Mac, NVDA on Windows) on search, results, a listing, the enquiry form and alert settings.

Known gaps

  • The map is visual. Everything on it is also in the results list, which is the accessible way to browse; map pins are buttons with names, but the map picture itself is not described.
  • Photo descriptions come from the agencies that list the homes. Some only say “photo 1”, “photo 2”.
  • The Maltese version of the site is a draft: some text is still in English, and the Maltese wording has not yet been checked by a native speaker.
  • Some text links are smaller than 44 px: breadcrumbs, footer links, listing titles inside cards and the map credits.
  • No independent audit and no testing with disabled users yet.
